    <description>One of the most common product safety-related analytical tests in the pharmaceutical industry (often
    referred to as a Limit Test) is the quantification of heavy metals or inorganics in all materials within a
    pharmaceutical product. This normally includes the toxic heavy metals such as As, Hg, and Pb. It is also common
    practice to measure catalysts, such as Pd and Pt, which are also well classified toxic elements. Throughout the
    manufacturing processes there are many potential sources of contamination. Therefore, in addition to measuring the
    starting materials it is essential to measure all finished products and in some cases intermediates, to demonstrate
    the compliancy with the various regulations.</description>

    <description>The quantitative extraction of total mercury, the soluble mercury fraction, and the nonsoluble mercury
    fraction from crude oil sample were achieved by using EPA Methods 3052, 3200, and 6800, respectively. The total
    mercury content in crude oil and in the nonsoluble fraction was determined by isotope dilution mass spectrometry
    (IDMS) protocol using inductively coupled plasma&amp;amp;ndash;mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) in spectrum mode, whereas
    the different mercury species in the soluble mercury fraction were determined by speciated isotope dilution mass
    spectrometry (SIDMS) protocol using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to an ICP-MS system in
    time resolved analysis mode. Nonextractable species were grouped in the current protocol and required a new
    collective isotopic spiking protocol to be developed. The mass balance for species adding to total mercury ranged
    between 93% and 100% at the 95% CL between separate samples from a single crude oil bulk sample. Deethylation to

    library collection of mass spectra to aid in interpretation also became clear. Confirmation of structure through a
    fingerprint spectral match was promptly augmented by suggestions of structure based upon spectral similarities.
    Libraries became larger and larger, search algorithms became faster, and pattern recognition techniques were
    applied; library development and optimization continues. Fundamentally new manipulations of data contained in mass
    spectral databases and libraries are envisioned for the next generation of mass spectral libraries, including
    developments both in very specialized collections as well as broader collections accessed through a web- and

    <description>The use of medicinal herbs as alternative treatment methods continues to grow. With this escalating
    use has come an increasing interest in determining the chemical compositions of these herbs in order to obtain a
    better understanding of their makeup and effects. In this study, Flos Chrysanthemi, a commonly used traditional
    Chinese medicine that has been cultivated for centuries, was analyzed to identify the main flavone compositions in
    one original breed of Flos Chrysanthemi (Hangbaiju) in China.</description>

    <description>Metabolite profiling in drug discovery can contribute significantly at the lead optimization stage in
    two main application areas. The first is the identification of major metabolites, which provides medicinal chemists
    with information on the metabolic &amp;#34;soft spots.&amp;#34; These soft spots are locations on the molecule
    particularly susceptible to metabolic modification, which can contribute to high pharmacokinetic clearance. This
    information then can be used to optimize the structure of a lead compound or chemical series to slow the rate of
    metabolism and therefore reduce hepatic clearance. This improves the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and
    excretion (ADME) properties of the compound, such as bioavailability, exposure (as measured by area under the
    curve), and half-life. Through iterative optimization of the structure and timely generation of metabolism data
    following each structural modification, pharmacokinetic properties can be improved while maintaining activity
    against the therapeutic target.</description>

    <description>Both Chinese ginseng and Korean ginseng are similar plant species and undergo similar handling
    procedures when harvested and processed for sale. Despite their similarities, Korean ginseng commands a higher
    price than Chinese ginseng on the open market and is believed to produce different clinical effects than Chinese
    ginseng. Chinese researchers are now employing new techniques on the two varieties of ginseng to understand their
    chemical differences. HPLC/UV-based strategies for distinguishing the two types of ginseng have proven to be mostly
    ineffective due to lack of resolution. Using UltraPerformance liquid chromatography/orthogonal acceleration
    (oa)&amp;amp;ndash;TOF mass spectrometry and exact mass measurement, the authors developed a high-resolution method
    using multivariate statistical analysis for separating and identifying differences between Chinese ginseng and
    Korean ginseng at the molecular level.</description>

    laboratories. It is used for elemental determinations across a wide range of analyses, including environmental,

    applications. Since the early publications during the development of ICP-MS, it has been apparent that one of the
